Pep Guardiola’s sudden exit from Barcelona last year left all baffled, after all why would he want to leave Europe’s most talented team?
It turned out to be a very good reason. He felt he had achieved all he could at Barca and what he said was true, after all he had won numerous la liga titles, copa del rey’s, UEFA Super Cups, the Champions League and even the World Club Championship. Furthermore, leaving Barca gave him more time to spend with his family and friends, something many managers regretted not being able to do.
But after many months away from the high-stress world of football it seems the world’s most sought after manager is ready to return.
The question on everyone’s mind is, who will he be joining?
The list of potential clubs seems to be endless: AC Milan, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Inter Milan. The list is literally endless. However, Pep has expressed a particular interest in coming to England so the way I see it, there are only 3 potential clubs:
Bookmakers make Chelsea favourites to acquire his services just ahead of Manchester United. Even though they are doing very well under Roberto Di Matteo their trigger-happy owner may look to bring a manager with a proven track record to the club.
Out of the 3 clubs listed City should, in theory, be the one he joins. After all, Mancini’s job is very much in trouble and being the current premier league champions can only help. However, it seems very unlikely as Guardiola is likely to join a club with much more history than city.
This is where I think he will end up going. With Alex Ferguson going to retire soon, United will be looking for a quality manager to take his place. However, if they do not snap him up soon they risk losing him to another club.
