The two teams that will play out the world series had very different paths to it.
The San Francisco Giants spent most of the regular season at the top of their division and in the end won it with relative ease, despite a late charge by the Dodgers. On the other hand, the Detroit Tigers spent most of their season trailing the White Sox and a very very late charge handed them the division.
When we entered the playoffs, the roles were reversed. The Tigers won the ALCS and ALDS with relative ease, capped off by a 4-0 demolishing of the Yankees. The Giants spent most of their playoffs trailing the other team and at 3-1 down looked certain to be eliminated.
But none of this really matters.
As we enter the world series, both teams have a clean slate and the team that wins will be the one that plays the better baseball and above all, wants it more.
That team will be San Francisco.
Many of you will think I am foolish for betting against a team that boasts one of, if not the best, rotation in baseball but after seeing the Giants in the playoffs, I think it would be foolish of me to not go with them.
There is nothing to choose between the squads, both boasting powerful lineups filled with match-winners. Unlike previous years, you cannot pick this year’s winner over which team has the better squad. However, the Giants have shown the grit and never-say-die attitude that last years winners the Cardinals showed and I think that gives them the edge over Detroit.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how this year’s WS unfolds
