Rant on the use of twitter in sport

It doesn’t seem like a day passes without a sports star saying something stupid on twitter. Just today, Ashley Cole took to twitter to launch a foul-mouthed tirade on the FA, calling them a ‘bunch of t***s.’This definitely isn’t an isolated example and Cole can take solace in the fact that he isn’t the only one to do something like this (Joey Barton, Kevin Pietersen) but that hardly makes it acceptable.

If you have a problem with someone, social media sites such as twitter are definitely not the place to moan about it. In this day and age of modern technology everything you write can be seen by millions around the world and there really is nowhere to hide.

I don’t think athletes should be banned from social media sites, I just think that the punishments for saying such things should be made harsher, as it doesn’t seem the message is getting through. These people are supposed to be role-models but I don’t know what is inspiring about calling someone a ‘t**t’…..

So to athletes, next time you are about tweet something pretend that your mum is sitting there, reading what you have written. Or if you have a chlld, pretend that he/she is reading it.

Then delete it.

I’m sure this is a problem that occurs all around that world and not just here in the UK and let me know your opinions on this issue
